Tour description

Darkness, cold, silence, secret passages and narrow corridors … Visiting the undergrounds of Rome is truly an unforgettable experience!

First visit the Catacombs of St. Agnes on via Nomentana. Rome has over 50 catacombs, all are located outside the Ancient city walls. One of the smallest and less known are the Catacombs of St Agnes, named after the roman virgin Agnes who in the year 304 got martyred for her faith in Jesus Christ.

From here we’ll take the subway to the Basilica di San Clemente, commonly called the ‘tiramisu’ church because of its many underground layers. Here it’s possible to go 50ft below the ground where under the modern streets lays an ancient basilica, a Roman house and a very mysterious temple.

Last but not least, the dark Capuchin crypt under the church of Santa Maria della Concezione at Via Veneto. The crypt consists of five chapels whose walls are lined with art composition of the bones of over 4,000 monks that died in the monastery. It’s a freighting but beautiful in its peculiarity.
